Legacy of Fire House Rules August 6, 2010 at 3:30 pm

House rules for our Legacy of Fire campaign. Mostly stuff you know or expect. Items in italics are new or have changed from the way we’ve run things in the past.

Game Time/ comments

  • Location is usually Ogre’s place but may vary.
  • Feel free to email the GM about side quests, crafting, or shopping, particularly when in town.

Character building

  • Use a 20 point buy when building characters.
  • Choose one of the following bonus feats at first level, you must meet the prereqs for the feat:
    • Dodge
    • Endurance
    • Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Full BAB classes only)
    • Iron Will
    • Great Fortitude
    • Heavy Armor Proficiency
    • Ironskin (Dwarf/ half orc natural armor bonus)
    • Keen Scent (Half Orc)
    • Lightning Reflexes
    • Medium Armor Proficiency
    • Shield Proficiency
    • Toughness
  • Players can choose two traits at the beginning of play, one of the traits should be chosen from the Legacy of Fire Players Guide campaign traits.
  • This is an Arabian Nights themed adventure, try and make a character that would feel at home in that setting.
  • Email me if you don’t have access to the players guide, try and read it.

Other stuff

You can probably skip reading this stuff or read it at leisure.

Skills

  • Knowledge (Arcana) is rolled into Spellcraft, don’t train K(arcana)
  • Knowledge (Dungeoneering) allows you to identify any Abberations, Oozes, and Constructs, Monstrous Humanoids, and Undead
  • Knowledge Nature is rolled into Survival; You can use Survival to identify Magical Beasts, Fey, Animals, or Plant Creatures.

Magic Items

  • Magic item availability is based on location, Katapesh has most everything somewhere but pricing might vary based on item. Smaller towns and remote locations will have significantly less inventory, charge more, and pay less.
  • Stat boosting items, Cloaks of resistance, and Rings of Protection are not commonly available as written. Please ask for alternate items.
  • In general expect slightly below average wealth per level.
  • Wondrous items other than the ones mentioned above are often available at a discount.

Crafting

  • Refer to the core book for crafting times on items, a secure location with the right equipment and at least a few days is required to craft items. (This isn’t actually a house rule but is often overlooked)
  • Feel free to craft any existing special weapon or armor, rod, staff, wondrous item, or wand.
  • Adding properties (flaming, shocking, etc) to new or existing weapons or armor is also fine.
  • Feel free to write up custom items but understand that the GM sets the price of custom items (or more rarely denies it).
  • I am open to third party products, with review and I might reject or reprice some items.

Rebuilding

  • During downtimes players can retrain feats and skills.
  • Retraining a feat takes 2 weeks and costs 200 gold per character level.
  • Retraining a skill point takes 2 days and costs 50 gold.
  • Spontaneous casters can retrain spell slots for 250 gold * character level * spell level.

Death

  • Yes, characters will die in this campaign but usually it’s avoidable.
  • Spells for fixing death cost the price of the material component plus 10% to cast (or players can calculate the cost of casting from the book).
  • When casting reincarnate the player can choose before rolling to opt for my alternate reincarnation table.

Feats

Pathfinder is a great system but it has some warts.  These are the feats which for various reasons are not available or altered in our rise of the runelords game.

  • Manyshot does not stack with rapidshot
  • Stabbing Shot from the APG – Ask me

Spells

Clarifications of spells.

  • Grease – When greasing a weapon the target is holding if she makes her initial save the weapon is not greased.
  • Shadow Projection – You cannot cast while in your shadow projection.

Sources

  • You can use any Paizo sourcebook
  • Third party spells and feats are subject to my approval.
  • You can choose any one 3.5 sourcebook and pull feats, spells, character classes, or items from that single sourcebook.
  • You can spend a feat to gain access to additional 3.5 sourcebooks.
